When Roshan Kumar first knocked on doors selling pest control during his college summers, he didn’t imagine that a few years later, he’d be leading a technology startup on the verge of changing the way millions of contract workers get paid. Yet, Roshan’s early days in the field revealed the fundamental problem Sequif is looking to solve: contract workers, particularly in industries like mortgage, pest control and solar, rarely knew exactly when or how much they would be paid. This uncertainty wasn’t just frustrating for employees, it creates headaches for business owners who have to deal with rampant turnover and operational chaos.

Our Investment in Sequifi

We’re excited to announce our investment in Sequifi as part of their $6.7 million Seed round. The company, co-founded by Roshan Kumar and Adam Duerschmidt, is building the first real-time pay and forecasting engine specifically tailored to the rapidly growing home services industry.

Today, the home services sector – spanning mortgage, pest control, solar installations, landscaping, and more – is experiencing unprecedented growth with more than 150 million Americans expected to be gig or contract workers by 2030. Yet, despite this boom, many of these businesses are still managing payroll and commissions through manual spreadsheets. This outdated approach creates massive inefficiencies, leaving workers uncertain about their earnings and employers struggling to forecast their largest expense.

Sequifi’s Unique Approach

Sequifi replaces outdated spreadsheets with a seamless, transparent platform purpose built for a world where every employee may have a different compensation model. Workers receive instant visibility into their earnings, same-day payments, and clear commission tracking. Employers benefit from real-time payroll forecasting, significantly reducing cash flow uncertainty enabling strategic planning, and increased compensation transparency for their employees.

Unlike W2-oriented payroll platforms, Sequifi was built explicitly to handle the complex, variable compensation structures common in home services. The flexibility of the platform enables them to accommodate the wide range of models companies have developed which means they can onboard entire companies in weeks – not months.

Founder Story: Roshan and Adam

Roshan Kumar and Adam Duerschmidt aren’t your typical Silicon Valley tech founders. Their journey began at the University of Wyoming, where Roshan quickly discovered he had a knack for sales, scaling his pest control sales team from one to over a hundred within a summer. Adam joined Roshan in their first entrepreneurial venture, successfully building and selling a pest control company and then a solar installation company.

In the midst of building these two companies, Roshan and Adam saw their employees facing persistent payroll frustrations.  Rather than start a third home services company, they decided to tackle the underlying payroll problem directly, launching Sequifi. From the moment I met Roshan and Adam, it was clear they had that rare combination of real-world experience, operational savvy, and unshakable determination. They’re not just building software – they want to fundamentally change how home service businesses operate and scale. 

Company Progress & Traction

In less than two years, Sequifi has already signed more than 60 customers and are now hiring a sales/GTM team. Driven by clear product market fit as businesses recognize the immediate value of their solution, customers repeatedly express how Sequifi has transformed their operations, significantly reducing turnover and boosting employee satisfaction. The product’s stickiness is evident – once businesses adopt Sequifi, they don’t leave, highlighting its critical role in their daily operations.
