Written by Cervin Ventures | 06 February 2023

The round was led by Silicon Valley-based Cervin and Athera Venture Partners (previously Inventus Capital) along with existing investor BIF (Bharat Innovation Fund). The investment will be used to expand FireCompass' operations across U.S. and international markets and bring on new talent.

Why We Invested

The acceleration in digital transformation has affected IT in significant ways. Remote/hybrid work and the extensive use of mobile devices and cloud services have necessitated changes in how businesses run. Changes have brought about a shift in the types of threats that organizations are subject to. There is an emerging need to increase visibility to previously unmonitored third-party systems and services. However, it remains true that a large part of setting a security strategy for an organization is simply understanding the available security capabilities in the marketplace and their potential applications and aligning these with risk-based requirements. Security and risk management leaders cannot prepare for every eventuality and, therefore, must make intelligent, business-driven decisions about which security operations technologies they choose to manage the risks to their organization.

Two of these areas, penetration testing and red teaming activities, have traditionally depended on human testers and their toolkits of commercial and proprietary tools. However, a new market of solutions, like FireCompass, is emerging that can fully or semi-automate continuous or ad hoc network and infrastructure penetration tests and red team activities.

Created by a team of serial cybersecurity entrepreneurs, FireCompass continuously indexes and monitors the deep, dark, and surface webs using nation-state-grade reconnaissance techniques. The platform automatically discovers an organization’s digital attack surface. Then, it launches multi-stage safe attacks, mimicking an actual attacker, to help identify breach and attack paths that are otherwise missed out by conventional tools.

FireCompass has both the capabilities of Attack Surface Management & Automated Red Teaming. As a matter of fact, Gartner Hype Cycle lists FireCompass in both its External Attack Surface Management (EASM) and Automated Penetration Test & Red Teaming spaces.  We think this joint functionality can enable FireCompass to be a platform in its space.

We feel fortunate to have the opportunity to partner with Bikash Barai, Arnab Chattopadhayay, Priyanka Aash, Jitendra Chauhan, and the entire team as they help companies stay ahead of the curve by identifying vulnerabilities before they can be exploited. We are proud to welcome FireCompass to the Cervin family.
