Spring has Sprung on Lake James!
Sunday afternoon was a bright sunny day bringing out a beautiful azure color of Lake James as viewed from the Paddy's Creek Dam. The lake was teeming with boats out for their first time after the long winter.
I saw many fishermen plying the waters, anxious to net this year's first walleye, white bass or large mouth bass. The fisherman were not the earliest fishers I had seen that day.
As the morning fog ascended from the smooth lake early Sunday, several large loons were feeding in the cove. Then the great blue herron appeared out of the mist on the opposite shore with a silvery fish in his beak. A chattering kingfisher swooped across the cove and also plucked a shad from the surface. The smaller diving ducks were there as well, bobbing on the surface and then slipping below the water only to emerge 20 yards from where they went under, with fish in their bills.
I will test the waters myself this weekend here at beautiful Lake James in Burke County in Western North Carolina.

Glen Alpine Springs Hotel
The Glen Alpine Springs Hotel in Burke County, NC served as a magnificent resort hotel for the elite in the early 1870s. Once known as the largest wooden structure in all of North Carolina, the hotel eventually transitioned into a boarding school until it finally burned in a massive fire in 1936.
Although this wonderful landmark was actually nestled away in the small Salem community of Brendletown, Glen Alpine laid claim to the name since most guests traveled to the hotel by train and Glen Alpine held the nearest train depot. A horse drawn carriage would await the arrival of expected guests and carry them to the highly acclaimed hotel famous for serving up the areas most precious natural resource, healing spring waters.
Burke County and Morganton, NC are rich with history and hidden real estate gems waiting to be discovered. For more information about the Glen Alpine Springs Hotel and the communities Glen Alpine and Salem, visit the North Carolina Room at the Morganton Public Library and stop by the History Museum (located next to the library).

THIS OLD HOUSE
I love old and older homes! If you are considering selling your "older" home please give me a call. Having owned a real estate company in Morganton, NC and Burke County for almost 20 years, I understand there are people who prefer to buy new homes and people who prefer to buy older homes. There is a big difference in the marketing of these two types of homes.
My own house near downtown Morganton, NC was built around 1910. It has been remodelled and updated, but without losing its character. I love the history, and discovery of the history of old houses. Who built it? Who has owned it? How has it changed from its original state? Does it need some updates? Is there an inexpensive way to do this? (yes). What should you do for it to bring the best price? I do the research to find the answers to all of these questions.
If you own an older home in Morganton, NC or in Burke County and don't know much about real estate, except that you are thinking of selling, please contact me. It is free to discuss with me the best way to market your home.
Please give me a call at 437-6522. I would be delighted to discuss it with you.
